Its been sooo long since I updated!   I have been sooo busy I cant even do voice posts...wtfrack!

But...so far so good in BOLC III....some of the leuitenants in my class are hawt!  But most are married ...boo.

In July I will be going to Charleston, SC to the Air Force Base for 10 weeks of training.....learning how they move things and stuff.

And dun dun DUNNNNN.....I got my list for permanent locations:

AMC, AMCOM. Huntsville, AL
AMC, CECOM. Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD
AMC, Letterkenny Army Depot. Chambersburg, PA
AMC, Sierra Army Depot. Herlong, CA
AMC, TACOM. Warren, MI
AMC, TACOM. Natick, MA
AMC, USASAC. New Cumberland, PA
ATEC, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MA
CASCOM, Fort Lee, VA
DA, HQ G-4, Pentagon, VA
IMCOM HQ, Alexandria, MD
LIA, Fort Belvoir, VA
US Army Corps of Engineers
     Milington, TN
     Portland, OR
     Cincinnati, OH
AMC, SDDC. Scott AFB, IL
     Bahrain
     Rotterdam, Netherlands
     Seattle, WA
     Jacksonville, FL
     Charleston, SC
     Beaumont, TX

There are 50 positions among those places and 50 interns vying for them, including me.  So one may get their first pick.....or they may get their last pick.  It all depends on what everyone wants.  Like AMCOM in AL is taking 11 people......if 15 people want that place.....4 people will get sent somewhere else.......so...hopefully I get what I want.  I want TACOM in Warren, MI but I think I can be pretty happy anywhere they send me....even if its Bahrain.  Even so..all those positions under SDDC...they are only for 12 months...then you go to Scott AFB to stay.....and Scott AFB is like...eh...

Eventually I will put some pics up from Log Warrior.  Me in fatigues!  ha!   I got to shoot guns and blow shit up!  It was pretty amazing!

I cant believe its freaking 9 o'clock already!   I have to get up in 7 hours.....wtf!   These long hours are killing me!

March 3rd, 2009 (07:31 pm)

So part of my training has been to see how they issue troops their uniforms.....PTs, ACUs, and Class As.....i.e.  Physical Training sweats, Combat Uniforms, and their Dress Uniforms.

So I spent the better half of my day eyeing up half naked soldiers...men and women.  After 5 weeks of basic, the soldiers are brought in to be issued their dress uniforms.

The only item the army actually "measures" the soldier for is boots and dress shoes.  Everything else is done by looking at them and going from there.  If its good, move on; if its bad, try again.  The ladies that do this are right on about 95% of the time, the other 5% they get it on the second try.

All morning I worked at the station where we size them for short sleeve dress shirts and gloves.  At this point in the line, all the soldier has on is his PT shorts and dress shoes.....shoes are the first item they get.  First thing I do is eye up his hands and guess the size glove they wear...have them try the glove on and then do their short sleeve dress shirt.  What I have to do is "eye" him up....neck size, shoulders, and waist.....and guess what his shirt size is.  My accuracy today was about 80%.  The soldier puts it on and I have to test how it fits.  I have to be able to put 2 fingers in the collar, the shirt has to lay flat across the chest...no baggyness...and it cant be tight in the shoulders either....so basically Im touching, tugging, sticking my fingers down their collar, and pulling on their shirts to test the fit.  If its good, I give him a second shirt and send him to the next station.  If it doesnt fit right, then I go either one size up or down and start the process all over again.  It usually takes about 2 minutes to do one soldier at this station. I did this for 165 men this morning.   hehe

This afternoon I helped on the ladies side.  They never do men and women at the same time.  Same thing....only the women are in only underwear and bra and I have to "eye" them for size.  Let me tell you how awkward that was....  Women are a LOT harder to fit shirts......neck, shoulders, chest, waist, and hips have to fit good.  And if you get a woman who is really skinny and has a large chest.....or like today...one girl was maybe a size 1 but she had really broad shoulders......then you get fitting problems.  And its the same thing....tugging, pulling, sticking your fingers in their coller, trying to get the shoulders right.  I felt so awkward...but the female soldiers didnt even bat an eye.  Apparently after they go through 5 weeks of basic on top of the physical.....they are stripped of their modesty.

I had one guy today compliment me on my sizing skillz......  "You had the perfect fit the first time...you must have been doing this a long time"

me:   ummm..about 2 hours...   LOL!!!

So yeah....days like these...I love my job.

Wellll......good times a rollin!

I am keeping EXTREMELY busy with work!  Sometimes working 10 or 11 hours a day.....there is just sooo much for me to learn...and very little time for me to learn it.  Ive been working in the Supply Division for the last 2 weeks and I will finish up there next week then on to Log Ops.

Supply has been a really cool place to work here.  I have learned how to issue and take turn ins on troop supplies, issue ammo, dispose of ammo, inspect dining facilities, balance property books, check Hazmat locations, toured the laundry facility, toured unit supply rooms, and next week I get to learn Central Receiving and issuing troop uniforms(yummy...hehe)

I spent an entire day working the helmet station on troop turn ins.  I was helping the guy that works there and while he is strict with the soldiers and sometimes harsh...I was the nice one that let small things slide.  So between us it was the good cop, bad cop routine.  I can just see it now in the line:

private:  uh....I'll wait until *points* she's ready to take me......     ahhh good times, good times

I also got to see the leading laundry facility in the entire Army.  This place was built by German POWs in WWII and all the machinery is from the 60's.  They have 400 lb washers, 450 lb dryers.....thats load capacity!  And they have these nifty machines that dry, iron, and FOLD sheets!  It can do 1000 sheets an hour.  Thats KICK ASS!   They would need this type of machinery.  This laundry facility handles the post hospital linens, billeting linens, and all the troop laundry(uniforms, clothes, and bed linens).  About 150,000 pieces of laundry a week!   WOO!  Thats one hell of a laundry chore!!!

And now for some funny work quotes:

8 am in the Property Book office
Rex: Now for lunch today....we going to Burger King right?
Mike: They gave you the correct serial number on that 50-cal right?
Rex:  What??  Get your priorities straight Mike!  I am TRYING to do a lunch brief.  Forget the missing 50-cal ok??

Jim(to me): Thats a nice purse.  I like the color and texture...its nice. *walks away*
Me and the others:  awwwwkward.......

Rex:  So they are putting the ice machine in a room that gets locked up?  I have to find someone with a key every time I want ice?
Jim(with a straight face):  We here in the Government like to lock up and secure our ice.....
* I guess you had to be there*

Ammo
Pete:  heheheh   I'll take you up to residue and show you what we do there.  And then when there are no witnesses I get to have my way with ya!
me:  *shakes fist*  you just TRY anything old man!  I'll shove you in a garbage can, throw a rock in with ya, and kick you down the hill!

Duffle Bag turn in
private:  *dumps bag on counter top with dirt on the bottom*
me:  can you knock that dirt off the bottom please?
The private starts to wipe the bag with his hand and being gentle like he might break it
me:  No no no.....just beat it like a red headed step child..

Aaaaand...the "Attagirl!" of the week:

I had to show a Sergeant First Class how to put the nape strap on a helmet harness.  Me!  I had only been working there half a day and I knew how to do it and he didnt!  A freaking SERGEANT FIRST CLASS!  I was like oh snap!  Go Gurl!

So anyway....that has been my life for the last 2 weeks.  I think I like Supply Division the best!

Wellllll........

I have officially been in the black hole for a month.  Still no change.

On one hand, maybe its good I got sent here instead because Mt ReDoubt is about to blow up there in Alaska....about 100 miles from where I would have been located.....interesting turn of events.  I did find out from someone who knows someone who knows someone who works in DOL up there that they have been BEGGING for interns and cant get anyone up there.  W.T.F?   Well if you people had answered your damn phone or opened your email once in a while....you would have seen that you had one intern VERY anxious to go up there....so....you fail Fort Richardson....you fail.

As it turns out...3 people in the DOL up there were out for some reason or another for like 3 weeks so no one was answering their email.  Out of Office reply....DO YOU USE IT????

As for Missouri...its the same old tune.   Other than a Walmart and some smaller shops and fast food places...there is nothing to do here.  And if you're not a hunter/fisher....you're poop out of luck.  ho hum...    I did go shopping last weekend with the Maint Div ladies to DRESS BARN!  Apparently the secretary in the Maint Div shops there a LOT so she called ahead to let them know she would be bringing us to shop there.  Well they just brought out the red carpet for us!  They set up a table and had food set out!  Cheese and crackers and fruit and low calorie snacks, bottles of water, and candy.  They got our sizes and searched for clothes we wanted and brought them to us in the dressing room....all in all..a very nice day...plus they gave us 15% off.  I got me a new dress suit for $24!  cant beat that with a stick!

Right now I am fighting a sinus infection....the second one since I came here.  I never get sick and now I get this!  blargh.

Been learning a LOT here on post....meeting TONS of people.  2 guys I am working with right now have 50 years of army experience between them....both can practically quote Army Regs....and both hav been drilling me on everything.  Its embarrassing how much I have to learn....but at least its making me learn the stuff.  I'll be going back to Fort Lee and my other classmates will be jealous of all the material I will have from these 2 guys....they have been printing me up stuff left and right and making me a disc with everything on it I need to know about Logistics and Maintenance.  Its a shit-ton of stuff!

Also....my favorites list on my browser is now overrun with Army websites LOL    army publishing directorate, logistics information warehouse, ILAP, FEDLOG, DA PAM 25-30....etc...    eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  I have a crapload of interface systems I need to be familiar with....SAMS 1E, SAMS IE, ULLS, ATAAPS, CLS.....too...many.....acronyms....  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

And I havent even gone to the Supply Division yet.....lordy!

so....no animu websites or fanclub forums for me.....I spend my nights reading Army Regulations....yeehaw!   Im such a nerd! Yay for nerds!

Tonight though.....i need to relax.
